Most expensive repairs start as cheap maintenance somebody skipped. We follow your manufacturer's schedule and tell you what's actually due — not a padded list.
Every oil service includes a multi-point inspection so you know what's coming before it strands you.
Oil change options for every vehicle
Not every engine needs the same oil. Your owner's manual specifies the viscosity (like 0W-20 or 5W-30) and the performance standard your engine was designed around, and using the wrong oil can affect fuel economy, wear, and even warranty coverage. We match the oil to your vehicle, not to whatever is on sale.
- Full synthetic oil changes — the standard for most newer engines, turbocharged engines, and vehicles that see heavy heat or towing
- Synthetic blend oil changes — a middle ground for many older and higher-mileage engines
- Conventional oil changes — for engines designed around conventional oil
- High-mileage oil — formulated for engines past roughly 75,000 miles to help with seals and minor seepage
How often should you change your oil in Texas?
The old 3,000-mile rule is outdated for most vehicles. Many modern engines on full synthetic oil are designed to run 5,000 to 7,500 miles or more between changes, and some oil-life monitors stretch even further. But North Texas driving is hard on oil: triple-digit summer heat, stop-and-go traffic on I-635 and the George Bush Turnpike, short trips around town, and towing all fall under what most manufacturers call severe service.
If most of your driving matches that description, plan on the shorter interval in your manual. When you come in, we'll check your owner's manual and your driving habits and give you a real number — not a sticker that guesses.
What's included with every oil service
An oil change is the one time a technician regularly sees your vehicle up close, so we make it count. Every oil service at our Garland shop includes:
- Drain and refill with the correct grade and quantity of oil
- New oil filter
- Inspection for oil and fluid leaks
- Check of brake pads, tires, and tire pressure
- Check of coolant, brake fluid, power steering, and washer fluid levels
- Belt and hose inspection
- Battery and charging check
- Air filter and cabin filter inspection
- Reset of the oil-life monitor where equipped
Factory-scheduled maintenance
Beyond oil, every vehicle has a maintenance schedule built around mileage: tire rotations, filter replacements, coolant and brake fluid service, spark plugs, transmission fluid, and timing belt replacement on engines that use one. Skipping these doesn't save money — it moves the cost to a bigger repair later.
We follow your manufacturer's schedule and tell you what's actually due. If your last shop handed you a long list of flushes and add-ons, bring it in and we'll tell you honestly which items are on your manufacturer's schedule and which ones can wait.
Battery testing and replacement
Heat, not cold, is the number one killer of car batteries, which is why Texas batteries often last only three to four years. A battery can test fine in the morning and leave you stranded in a parking lot that afternoon. We load-test your battery during maintenance visits and replace it on the spot when it's weak, so you're not finding out the hard way.
Signs you're overdue for service
- The oil-change or maintenance reminder is on
- Oil on the dipstick is dark, gritty, or below the add mark
- The engine sounds louder or ticks at startup
- You smell oil or see drips where you park
- It's been more than six months since your last oil change, even with low mileage
Quick, honest maintenance close to home
Cruise Automobile is on Shepherd Drive in Garland, convenient to drivers in Richardson, Rowlett, Sachse, Mesquite, Plano, and northeast Dallas. Walk-ins are welcome for oil changes, and many visits are done while you wait. Because we're a full-service shop, if the inspection turns up something bigger — a leaking water pump or worn brake pads — the same team can take care of it, with your approval first.
Fluids beyond the oil
Engine oil is only one of the fluids that keep your vehicle healthy. Coolant protects against overheating and corrosion and breaks down over time. Brake fluid absorbs moisture, which lowers its boiling point. Transmission fluid carries heat away from the clutches and gears inside an automatic transmission, and North Texas traffic makes it work hard. Power steering and differential fluids wear out too. During every oil service we check levels and condition, and we'll tell you when a fluid is actually due by your manufacturer's schedule — not because a chart on the wall says so.
Filters that affect how your car runs and how it smells
The engine air filter keeps dust out of the engine; a clogged one can reduce performance and fuel economy. The cabin air filter cleans the air you breathe inside the car and keeps the A/C airflow strong. Dallas-area dust, pollen, and construction debris clog both faster than you might think. They're inexpensive to replace, and we'll show you the old one so you can see the difference.
Keeping a maintenance record
Every service we perform is listed on your invoice with the date and mileage. Keep those records with the vehicle: they support warranty claims, help the next technician understand the car's history, and add real value when you sell or trade in.

Oil Change FAQs
Do I need an appointment for an oil change?+
No — walk-ins are welcome. Calling ahead at (682) 246-3449 can shorten your wait on busy days.
Will using an independent shop void my new-car warranty?+
No. Federal law lets you have maintenance done anywhere as long as the correct parts and fluids are used and you keep records. We document every service on your invoice.
Is synthetic oil worth the extra cost?+
For many engines it's required, not optional. Where it's optional, synthetic oil handles heat better and lasts longer, which matters in Texas summers. We'll tell you what your engine calls for.
Do you rotate tires during an oil change?+
Tire rotation is part of most manufacturer schedules and can be done at the same visit. Ask when you check in and we'll let you know if you're due.
How long does an oil change take?+
Most oil changes are done in well under an hour, often while you wait. Busy times can mean a short wait for a bay.
